College major is a specific subject area that a student specializes in.
You can have a major in two fields, a major and a minor, and you can even create your own major at some colleges. Almost half of the courses you take in college will be related to your major.
If you are taking a four-year degree, you get to see which among the various subjects interests you until the end of your sophomore year. While when you’re earning a two-year degree, you have to choose a major at the start of the program since it is a much shorter program.
Note the subjects or areas that makes you comfortable and at the same time interests and motivates you. Take these courses so you can know what major to choose. It is always better to get the feel of it before diving into it. However, you can still switch major if you are not sure about your college major. In some cases, students who think they were sure about the major often change their mind.
Of course, you can always ask your guidance counselors and academic advisers for help when choosing a major.
